How Katahdin Log Homes Does It Differently
- In addition to pre-drilling their logs, which streamlines construction and produces a more energy efficient home, Katahdin offers a 25 year warranty on all of their log home packages.
- To achieve minimal shrinkage, Katahdin air dries the logs 6-9 months or until the moisture content is below 15%. This natural process provides a more stable log with less cracking and shrinking.
- Katahdin logs are pre-cut for exact length, pre-drilled, and the window openings are cut for you. Every log is numbered and organized so that when the package is delivered to your location, there is less down-time searching for the correct logs and your home is easy to construct!
KCLH begins pre-drilling logs
The process of pre-drilling logs not only saves time, but greatly enhances the overall quality of the log home. When Katahdin Cedar Log Homes became the first major cedar log home manufacturer to pre-drill logs in May 2003, we fully expected a more stable and weather resistant log home. However, the results have even surpassed our high expectations. By pre-drilling each individual log to allow for the use of lag bolts, the average erection time of a typical log wall has been nearly cut in half. Pre-drilled homes are more weather resistant than homes built with pole barn spikes. This is because the log's tongue does not sustain any hammer damage and the logs are much more tightly held in place than those homes built with log screws.

Warranty: Commitment is As Strong As Our Logs
Katahdin Cedar Log Homes extends, to the Original Purchaser, a 25 year warranty on all wood components we manufacture to be free of manufacturer defects. Under this warranty, Katahdin Cedar Log Homes will provide replacement material for the items that we deem defective. Katahdin Cedar Log Homes shall not be responsible for any warranty claims associated with construction practices, storage, or handling, which do not comply with our specifications, blueprints, or construction manual.
The items in the log home package that Katahdin Cedar Log Homes did not manufacture such as caulking, foam strip, windows and doors shall be covered by the expressed warranties of those manufacturers. Katahdin Cedar Log Homes does not warranty any of those items that have their own warranty. All material provided in our package must be used in accordance with the blueprint and prevailing building codes. Any material used in a wasteful manner voids this warranty. All claims covered under this warranty must be made in writing to our main office in Oakfield, Maine.
